I’m a 17-year-old student passionate about neuroscience and committed to Alzheimer’s advocacy. My interest began with my grandfather, a brilliant man with a PhD in architecture, whose memory slowly faded due to Alzheimer’s. Watching him change from someone who taught me so much into someone who struggled to remember my name was hard on me. I became a Certified Nursing Assistant at 16 and started working in memory care, where I could care for others facing what my grandfather did. It genuinely taught me the emotional and physical toll Alzheimer’s takes, not just on patients, but on caregivers too. That’s why I co-founded Lighthouse for Care, to create a space where caregivers feel supported, informed, and comfortable. In doing these acts, I hope to reflect what I learned from my grandfather’s experience and make the journey easier for others going through a similar path.

Alzheimer’s became personal to me as I watched my grandfather’s mental and physical decline over several years. He went from being a successful, intelligent man to someone who couldn’t remember names or care for himself. Seeing this transformation deeply affected me and made me wonder what causes such a devastating change.
At first, I knew little about Alzheimer’s, thinking it only caused forgetfulness. After watching a short video, I realized how destructive it truly is—it slowly erases everything, from memory to basic life functions. This motivated me to join OHSU’s PSI program, where I interned in neuroscience and studied Alzheimer’s research. I’ve since learned there’s no cure yet, so I’m committed to raising awareness and helping my community connect, learn, and support those affected.
Our Team
Arvin Azadpour
Volunteer Team Lead
brings caregiver stories to life, from organizing student volunteers to filming powerful video interviews with caregivers and allies. His passion for honoring caregiving comes from reading books and poems to his grandfather, who is living with Alzheimer disease. Through every story he helps tell, he hopes to ensure that every act of care is remembered, every voice is heard, and no caregiver feels alone.
Persia Bowman
Social Media Coordinator
As a graduating senior heading to Oregon State University, Persia leads our social media efforts — from writing heartfelt Instagram captions to designing awareness campaigns that honor caregivers and inspire change. Her work is deeply personal. Growing up, her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer, it was painful. She now calls her grandmother weekly, hoping the sound of her voice might spark a moment of recognition. Through Lighthouse for Care, she hopes to ensure that fewer families face the same challenges alone — and that every caregiver feels seen, valued, and supported.
Dominic Gold
Outreach Coordinator
is a passionate high school student who thrives on bringing people together. Whether he’s organizing caregiver appreciation events or reaching out to vendors for partnerships, his creativity and drive help grow awareness for dementia support. Dom proudly sees himself as a “friend of dementia,” always ready to stand by his peers who have loved ones experiencing memory loss. Through every event, he aims to build connection, reduce stigma, and show caregivers they are never alone
